Origins in Switching Printers

PostPosted by StructuralPE » Fri Apr 10, 2015 7:41 pm

An old lingering issue for me, it seems when I take any given drawing (Gxd) and switch from my HP 800 plotter to the General Cadd's pdf printer, both in ver 11 and 12, I have to change the drawing's origin to get proper margins.
By proper I mean the same from both.
If I have a drawing that plots properly with a 0,0 drawing and print origin on the HP, the drawing is not properly placed in a pdf.

It's not a big deal if it's one sheet, but jobs generally run 10 sheets or so.
Using the print dialog "Apply to all" unfortunately does not change print origins so it's not helpful in that regard. It would really help if it did.

Is there a trick to coordinate this?

Just curious, do you have Center turned on? That should reposition it automatically.
It's not really an on/off option. Turn it on with (DP,C). It will turn off if you manually change the origin.

I don't know about center but will take a look.
Printing standards are for 1/2" margins outside the border lines on top, bottom and right but 1 1/2" on left.
If "center" does what it sounds like it may not get the left hand margin correct.

I have the drawings set up with a (0,0) origin to properly place the HP plot on the paper with proper margins.
When going to pdf printout though the origin has to be set to (-18", -18.88") to get the same effect.
Both are ARCH D, 24x36 sheets plotted at 1/8"-1'-0" scale.

I second the motion that "apply to all" changes the print origins.

I also would like to see more print origin flexibility. ACAD TrueView has the ability to globally adjust the X and Y origins. That would be a great help in setting binding margins.

Matt,
No I do not "center" the drawings because it messes up the unequal margins as previously noted.
I am envisioning it might work if the sheet edges were drawn outside of the drawing border but I'm not sure.
Most useful would be to have the print dialog "apply to all" affect all drawing settings across all the tabs.

OK, I'll add origins to the Apply All Settings list. I'll add it to Batch Options and see how well it works.

Not too far on that, sorry. Let me see if I can carve out some over the next week. Putting a post-it on the monitor!
