ERROR:Invalid Symbol Table Name

PostPosted by happytobehere » Fri Nov 18, 2016 11:31 pm

Greetings,
Just got my V12 in. Long time user of CADD6.
I can convert my GCD file over to GXD, but when I try to convert my GXD over to DXF or DWG, I'm told
that the file was not saved, and I get an error message that says " Invalid Symbol Table Name".
Can anyone tell me how to provide the program with what it needs?

Many thanks.

It works ok for me. I loaded an old gcd and then did an SA(A) and saved.
Are you using SA(A)?

I appreciate the response Sam. I feel like I've tried a number of ways to do this (including the way you wrote), but I always get the same Error message.
The documentation doesn't seem to mention this error. Making these conversions was a primary reason for purchasing the software. I had used the version 6 of General Cadd
and didn't see any of this before, so I'm not sure where this is coming from, or what to do about it.....

fyi, I uninstalled software, and reloaded with the disk I received (GCP11). Converted all the fonts, hatches, cmps.
Same problem.

Would anyone have any info on what "SYMBOL Table Name" is? and/or how I can get past this error?
Thanks

GCP creates a log file of the conversion. Look for it and see if it provides any further clues.

I'll see if I can rattle Matt's cage on this one.

Thanks Tom.
FYI, I think I'm on the track.....
The files I was trying to convert had a CADD boarder around my drawings.
Under the right hand corner, was printing: Y:\DWG\
Many years ago, the drawing boarder was converted from an old dxf file using Generic Cadd6.

All I know is if I erase that little text line (Y:\DWG\) from the drawing, the conversion goes like you would expect.
Obviously, there's something in that text line that causes that error.
Thanks for all those giving this some thought,
Dave

Dave,

DWG is very picky when it comes to symbol (block) names. If there is an invalid character in the name it will throw that error. Sometimes layer names will cause that error.
Can you send me (contact@generalcadd.com) the file and I'll try it here. If I can get the error I can usually fix it.

Thanks for rattling my cage Tom...:)
